Roger Federer has smashed his way into the record books and cemented his place among the game's greatest players by winning his first French Open title.
His triumph on the Roland Garros clay makes him only the sixth player in the history of the game to win on all four grand slam surfaces.
The straight-sets victory over Sweden's Robin Soderling also equals Pete Sampras' career record of 14 Grand Slam titles.
Federer has already collected three Australian Opens, five US Opens and five Wimbledon titles.
